OA of the first carpometacarpal (trapeziometabecalar) joint. Extremely common: radiographic evidence in 25% of women and 8% of men over 55. The most common site of hand OA. Causes pain with pinch grip, opening jars, turning keys. Higher in post-menopausal women.
