Broken Thumb-Side Wrist Bone
Fracture of the scaphoid: most commonly fractured carpal bone (60-70% of carpal fractures). FOOSH mechanism in young adults. High risk of AVN (up to 30% in proximal pole fractures) and nonunion due to retrograde blood supply. Can be occult on initial X-ray (15-20% missed).
