Jersey Finger (FDP Avulsion)
Can't Bend Fingertip
Avulsion of the flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) tendon from its insertion on the distal phalanx. Opposite of mallet finger: loss of ACTIVE FLEXION at DIPJ. Most common in ring finger (75%). Mechanism: forced extension of actively flexed finger (grabbing a jersey). SURGICAL EMERGENCY: must be repaired within 7-10 days for optimal outcomes.
