Thumb Ligament Tear (Inner Side)

Injury to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) of the thumb MCPJ. Acute (skier's thumb: fall onto abducted thumb) or chronic (gamekeeper's thumb: repetitive stress). Third most common skiing injury. Complete rupture may result in Stener lesion (displaced ligament outside adductor aponeurosis: cannot heal without surgery).
