Sore Bump Below Knee (Growing Pain)
Traction apophysitis of the tibial tuberosity in adolescents. The patellar tendon pulls on the immature tibial tuberosity growth plate during repetitive quadriceps loading. Peak age: 10-14 (girls 8-13, boys 10-15). Prevalence up to 21% in sporting adolescents. Self-limiting: resolves when the growth plate fuses, though a permanent prominent tibial tuberosity often remains.
