Torn Knee Ligament (ACL)
Rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament: one of the most common serious knee injuries. 200,000+ ACL injuries/year in the US. 70% from non-contact mechanism (pivoting, landing, deceleration). Female athletes 2-8x higher risk than males in equivalent sports. Associated injuries: meniscal tears (50%), MCL sprains (30%), bone bruising (80%), ALL injury.
