Perthes Disease (Legg-Calvé-Perthes)
Childhood Hip Bone Problem
Avascular necrosis of the femoral head in children (age 4-10, peak 5-7). Male:female 4:1. The femoral head loses blood supply, necroses, then gradually remodels over 2-5 years. Prognosis depends on age at onset (younger = better) and degree of femoral head involvement (Herring lateral pillar classification).
