Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome / Gluteal Tendinopathy
Outer Hip Pain
Pain and tenderness over the greater trochanter: historically called "trochanteric bursitis" but now recognised as primarily a gluteal tendinopathy (gluteus medius and minimus tendons) with or without secondary bursitis. The most common cause of lateral hip pain. Peak in women 40-60. Strong association with obesity, female sex, LBP, and reduced hip abductor strength.
