Acute Hamstring Strain
Pulled Hamstring
Acute tear of the hamstring musculotendinous unit: most common muscle injury in sport (12-16% of all athletic injuries). Biceps femoris long head most commonly affected (80%). Two main mechanisms: sprinting type (biceps femoris, distal MTJ) and stretch type (semimembranosus, proximal free tendon: worse prognosis). Recurrence rate 12-31%.
