Stiff Spine from Extra Bone Growth
Systemic condition characterised by flowing calcification and ossification along the anterolateral aspect of at least 4 contiguous vertebral bodies. Distinguished from AS by: no sacroiliac involvement, no facet joint ankylosis, disc spaces preserved. Prevalence 15-25% in >50 years. Associated with type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome.
