Sore Achilles (At the Heel)
Tendinopathy at the Achilles insertion on the calcaneus. Different pathology and management from mid-portion. Associated with Haglund's deformity (prominent posterosuperior calcaneal bump), retrocalcaneal bursitis, and intratendinous calcification. Dorsiflexion stretches and eccentric drops (Alfredson style) may WORSEN insertional tendinopathy because they compress the tendon against the calcaneus.
